Forget Color of the Year — These 5 Popular Paint Colors Will Reign Supreme in 2021
From pale rosy pinks to muted mustard yellows.
Some paint color trends come and go, while some colors stand the test of time. Which is why instead of declaring a single paint color of the year that will surpass all others, we carefully poured over our sales data and customer feedback to identify our most popular colors, and how those color trends and preferences shift over time.
After analyzing our 2020 data - from paint sales to page views and social media engagement, we discovered that customers are gravitating towards lighter, warmer colors that bring a sense of calm to a space, while brightening up a room. From pale rosy pinks to muted mustard yellows and more, these are the interior paint colors for 2021 that we believe will be everywhere — and how to use them at home.
1. Warm Neutrals are Totally Trending
Warm neutral paint colors are having a moment and it’s not hard to see why. Along with bringing warmth and versatility to a space, a neutral paint palette can instantly make a room feel cozy and comforting — something a lot of us will be looking for in 2021. No surprise then that design enthusiasts are going gaga on the ‘gram for Neutral Territory, a sandy beige with richly warm undertones, and On Point, an airy greige that plays beautifully with natural light. Consider a sophisticated neutral for a primary room in your home, like your living room, for a versatile shade that will work with a variety of decor styles while creating an inviting ambience.
2. Soft Pinks are All the Rage
For a charming burst of color at home, look no further than a gorgeous shade of pale pink. Wildly popular on social media, interior design lovers are turning to light, punchy pink hues with a pop of personality to liven up their spaces in 2021.
As an answer to this demand, we recently added Meet Cute, a soft rosy pink, to the Clare color palette. Like several of our other highly sought after pinks, including Pop, Rosé Season and Wing It, Meet Cute is a refreshing hue that works wonders in bathrooms, dining rooms and living rooms.
3. Nature’s Neutrals Never Go Out of Style
You can always count on a rich shade of green to evoke the calming, enveloping spirit of the great outdoors. Current Mood, a deep, moody green with cool undertones, has long been a social media favorite — and one of Clare’s best-selling paint colors. In 2020, our customers also turned to more vibrant greens, like Matcha Latte, to energize their bedrooms, living rooms and home offices with a burst of color that draws from nature. If you’re looking for the perfect balance of boldness and versatility, green is certainly for you.
4. Shades of Yellow are the Mood Boosters We All Need
Warm and uplifting, yellow wall paint is the perfect way to brighten up a room without overpowering the space. The increase in searches and sales for shades of yellow suggests that people are looking for mood-boosting hues to energize their homes and spirits in the midst of a global pandemic.
Inspired by this trend, we’ve added Good as Gold to our designer-curated paint color palette. Consider this sophisticated mellow yellow or it’s brighter big sister, Golden Hour, to set a cheery tone for a kitchen or dining room. A soft lemony yellow, like Lemonade is a great choice that’s sure to spark joy. Try one of these sunny shades to boost productivity in a home office, or enliven a kids room.
5. Cue Instant Calm With These Popular Shades of Gray
As we continue to hunker down at home, more and more people are opting to add soothing shades of gray to their interiors to create a sense of calm and serenity. Since the pandemic, we’ve seen soft, airy grays, including Chill, a barely-there gray with slightly green undertones, and Grayish, a cool greenish gray that still reads neutral, popping up in the homes of interior designers and wellness-minded decorators alike. Employ a relaxing shade of gray in a bedroom, bathroom or any other area of your home where you like to unwind, to help evoke feelings of comfort and contentment.
